Tools Needed

  1. Standard pliers
  2. 5MM allen key (ideally a socket type and small torque wrench)
  3. Rubber grease

Safety Precautions

  1. Ensure the engine is off and cooled down.
  2. Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical accidents.

Removal Steps

  1. Locate the SCV: The SCV is situated on the fuel pump. Access it from the top side of the engine.
  2. Disconnect Electrical Connector: Carefully detach the electrical connector from the SCV. This is done by pressing the tab and pulling the connector out.
  3. Clear Some Working Area: Do this by Removing the fuel supply lines using the pliers.
  4. Remove Fixing Bolts: Use a 5mm allen key to unscrew the bolts that secure the SCV to the pump.
  5. Extract SCV: Once the bolts are removed, gently pull out the SCV from its seating and remove the O’ring.

Installation Steps

  1. Prepare New SCV: Remove any packaging and protective covers from the new SCV.
  2. Insert SCV: Place the new SCV into the slot on the fuel pump. Ensure it is seated correctly.
  3. Secure with Bolts: Reattach the bolts that were removed earlier. Tighten them to ensure the SCV is firmly in place.
  4. Reconnect Electrical Connector: Plug the electrical connector back into the SCV. Make sure it clicks into place, indicating a secure connection.

ECM Relearning Process

  1. After installing the new SCV, an ECM relearning process is necessary to ensure optimal engine performance.
  2. Start the engine and allow it to idle for 10 minutes. This step allows the ECM to adjust to the new SCV automatically.
  3. After idling, perform a test drive at varying speeds to ensure the ECM fully adapts to the changes.

Final Checks

  1. Verify all tools and parts are removed from the engine area.
  2. Check the work area for cleanliness.
  3. Ensure there are no warning lights on the dashboard.
