Tools Needed
- Standard pliers
- 5MM allen key (ideally a socket type and small torque wrench)
- Rubber grease
Safety Precautions
- Ensure the engine is off and cooled down.
- Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical accidents.
Removal Steps
- Locate the SCV: The SCV is situated on the fuel pump. Access it from the top side of the engine.
- Disconnect Electrical Connector: Carefully detach the electrical connector from the SCV. This is done by pressing the tab and pulling the connector out.
- Clear Some Working Area: Do this by Removing the fuel supply lines using the pliers.
- Remove Fixing Bolts: Use a 5mm allen key to unscrew the bolts that secure the SCV to the pump.
- Extract SCV: Once the bolts are removed, gently pull out the SCV from its seating and remove the O’ring.
Installation Steps
- Prepare New SCV: Remove any packaging and protective covers from the new SCV.
- Insert SCV: Place the new SCV into the slot on the fuel pump. Ensure it is seated correctly.
- Secure with Bolts: Reattach the bolts that were removed earlier. Tighten them to ensure the SCV is firmly in place.
- Reconnect Electrical Connector: Plug the electrical connector back into the SCV. Make sure it clicks into place, indicating a secure connection.
ECM Relearning Process
- After installing the new SCV, an ECM relearning process is necessary to ensure optimal engine performance.
- Start the engine and allow it to idle for 10 minutes. This step allows the ECM to adjust to the new SCV automatically.
- After idling, perform a test drive at varying speeds to ensure the ECM fully adapts to the changes.
Final Checks
- Verify all tools and parts are removed from the engine area.
- Check the work area for cleanliness.
- Ensure there are no warning lights on the dashboard.
